Are you running the extra mile? It really pays off

Hi Learner,

You might have heard about the extra mile concept before, but if you haven’t explored about what is it in detail then this is a post for you through which I am trying to share all the benefits which you can reap by running the extra mile

If you are already travelling the extra mile then that’s really awesome, a thumbs up for your extra mile effort and lifestyle. Do, go through the post, you might find something more from my experiences and don’t forget to share your extra mile surprises with me and all the other learners.running the extra mile

Running the extra mile is Awesome

It makes you feel happy

We all work directly or indirectly for happiness and we tend to do everything for happiness alone. For example, going to the workplace though we don’t love to work or eating green leafy vegetables though we don’t like them everything we do for happiness.

And, a sure shot way to be happy is to give something extra than compared to what is actually expected from us and this ignites the self-respect within us. Everyone experiences it whenever we do something more than which we are not expected to do. And, that day would be one of the most wonderful day of our life and we would have a million dollar sleep in the night.

Gives you an edge over others

Running extra mile can make your success a cake walk

Don’t you think doing more than you are expected to do would give you an edge over your other coworkers? Of course, it would give you an edge due to which you would be most respected and even envied 😉 among your coworkers. You would beat all your competition and you start competing with yourself only instead of competing with others.

You are respected even by your superior officers and other team members and whenever a new opportunity comes, you will be the first choice in the mind of even your competitors.

Makes your journey comfortable (as there is no traffic)

There are no traffic jams on Extra mile. – Zig Ziglar

You know there is very less traffic on the extra mile, you might have noticed, but I am reiterating the very common points.

If you start early to office then you will reach the office quickly and it will be easy for you to drive as well because not all are willing to work more by reaching early to the office. And, the same applies if you stay late to do more work in the office than expected and during that scenario also no one would be surrounded by you.

There would be no time wastage due to traffic jams. It reduces pressure on you as you have completed the work assigned to you & are taking additional responsibility.

Decreases your chance to worry

Since, you have completed the tasks assigned to you there would be no one to question you regarding any aspect.

There would be no worry to cloud your mind thinking about what your supervisors and team members think of you, what feedback would be given about you when asked for.

Increases your chance to Victory

If you are a supervisor of two people and one among them is working very hard to remove off all the burden you are having and the other is doing just the tasks assigned to him. Then, which one of them would win your appreciation? Most probably the first one. So, you are most likely to succeed not only in the workplace but in every field where you are running the extra mile.

You will be the first choice for promotion as discussed earlier, just re-iterating 😉

You will unconsciously win Procrastination

Procrastination is not theif of dreams, it is the thief of Life – Brian Tracy

Procrastination is termed as one of the greatest enemies a man can have because it steals away opportunities, happiness and even life from your life.

By deciding to go the extra mile, you would unconsciously win the habit of procrastinating and achieve much more in days which takes years or even lifetime for some other individuals to achieve on this planet.

It takes you quickly towards mastery

We attain mastery by pushing our limits little each and every day. – definition of innovation as well

Masters are the people who are paid well, respected well and they do little but they change the face of the world.

It takes 10000 hours of focused hard work in a specific field to became a master of that field and by working the extra mile you would become master and that too very quickly and would have the edge over not only your generation but also future generations.

Gives a push to your inner inventor

Becoming inventor is the next stage of mastery and by travelling the extra mile you become master and an inventor as well. Most of the inventors were the people who took the hard road, travelled the extra mile and this decision alone of running the extra mile was the root cause of their success.

Isaac Newton would not have had any pain to believe that apple falls down and it is common, the question he asked had forced him to take the extra mile to find out the answer and thus led the scientist inside him to rise up to change the face of the world and inspire inventors like Thomas Alva Edison.

Effect of running extra mile on Relationships

Criticism won’t enter your mind

Do more than is required. What is the distance between someone who achieves their goals consistently and those who spend their lives and careers merely following? The extra mile. – Gary Ryan Blair

If you do your best and your mind understands that you have done your best, the criticism given by others would do no harm to you. Many attend seminars to handle criticism and you would just win over the criticism without any additional effort i.e., for free (nothing is cheaper than free).

Relationships get stronger

You would be loved rather worshipped if you start running the extra mile.

You will love more work, most of the times people worry when additional work falls into their bucket, but when you are going extra mile the situation is different, you will feel extremely happy to take more work and even others work if they are facing difficulty in completing their work.

When you do help others without expecting anything in return and that enhances the quality of the relationship.

Most of the relationship problems even in the married couple occur due to the laziness in taking responsibility and a family or a relationship where at least one person is willing to do more, you have to carry a microscope or telescope to find problems in their lives.

Measures to be taken for running the extra mile

If you want to succeed at any job, make yourself invaluable. Go the extra mile; make them never be able to imagine what life without you there would be like. – Ross Mathews

We spoke about all rather most of the benefits you get by travelling the extra mile, but you have to remember one more point and that is going the extra mile and considering it as an extra work would steal most of the above benefits.

Go the extra mile with a perfect mental attitude and that would help you understand the real glory in it which would make you much happy than just sitting around and time wasting.

So, I have started going the extra mile and it feels really fantastic. Are you going the extra mile? If not, give it a try at least for 7 days.

Start by doing small acts which you are not expected to do in home, workplace, college, school etc and don’t expect anything in return for that, not to forget that these acts have to be done with perfect mental attitude as a pleasure and not as a pressure.

Check out the results of running the extra mile and you would never feel like giving up this habit.
