I always wonder why do I get demotivated at times so I began doing a small research on why does a person gets demotivated? Then I found some set of simple but shocking reasons for that. This post is about those acts which cause demotivation to us.
Why does a person gets demotivated?
Motivation is a feeling of achievement or a hurry to achieve something you aspire when your eyes are open not those when your eyes are closed. It can also be called as directing your energies for a single cause until it is 100% complete the way you want it to complete.
How motivated are you today? If you are not motivated today to work on the tasks which you have set for yourself then this post is for you.
The following are some of the reasons due to which a person gets demotivated –
- Fear or Escapism
- Lack of Goal
- Small Goal
- Lack of Persistence
- Lack of Belief
Let us get into a bit deeper about these –
1. Fear or Escapism
Some people break under trouble while some break records. – Norman Vincent Peale
When we have a task to do then we do have two options either to win or lose while this result comes only after we start doing our task, but we do have one more step in between i.e. to do a person stops trying as well due to fear. As a result, he ends up doing nothing.
Ostrich method to Ignore fear
Why I coined Escapism above is when a person gets frightened he does have two options ignore the fear or do something about it (face it or worry about it). Ignoring the fear is really funny because do you know about the ostrich, one of the largest bird and the way it tackles its fear of problem is awesome.
Mostly, these ostriches are found in deserts and whenever an ostrich encounters a sand storm what it does is instead of running away or find a safe place to protect, it just borrows its head alone in the sand below and hopes for the storm to pass. This is ignoring fear or escapism.
As soon as fear approaches you attack it and destroy it wrote Chanakya, one of the most eminent scholar of ancient India. How to attack fear? Simple, do what you fear and your fear is implicitly attacked and the primary cause of your fear is destroyed.
2. Lack of Goal
If you don’t build your dream, someone will hire you to help them build theirs. – Dhirubhai Ambani
Most people don’t have any goal, but they do have dreams those which aren’t powered means they want something, something greater than what they have. It is no wrong to dream of something greater, but just dreaming alone for that is wrong.
Dreams can never become reality, your goal can turn your dream into reality. Brian Tracy has termed it beautifully – A goal is like a bullet with gunpowder and a dream is without gunpowder, without gun powder, a bullet is useless.
The gun powder is comprised of your planning, thinking, analysing, constant hustling about your goal. You never plan for your dream, you just dream, but for reaching a goal you have to plan, think, analyse, work hard etc. That is the difference between your goal and dream.
3. Setting Small Goals
Small Aim is Crime. – APJ Abdul Kalam
The problem with people is not that they set great goals, but it is that they set small goals and reach them wrote an author, he was true unless we have a great goal which is frightening enough we would not get up from our couch.
Set great goals, I read it somewhere If your goal doesn’t scare you then it isn’t big enough, why everyone great person suggests others to set high goals for themselves is, if they set small goals they can reach them easily and the that’s it the game ends, but if you set a great goal for yourself then you would have to do sacrifices, real hard work and this helps you to awaken the giant within you (Anthony Robbins book). And, when that Giant awakens your life would be a tribute to you and inspiration to millions.
4. Lack of Persistence
Obstacles are those things which we see when we lose the sight of our Goal – Anonymous
It’s hard to defeat a person who never gives up said, Babe Ruth. Similarly, a person’s greatness and success is often measured using his ability on how fast he bounces back after he falls, but not on how many times he has fallen.
5. Lack of Belief
A person who doesn’t believe in himself is called Atheist while the old religion said that the person who doesn’t believe in God is an atheist. – Swami Vivekananda
Belief in yourself is very important to achieve anything and if you have belief alone then the above obstacles won’t matter much (except goal setting). Lack of belief is the cause of all diseases.
A person who has great belief in himself can deny any failure and downfall. The belief in self-grows with trusting in yourself, respecting yourself etc. A best and easiest way to start believing is to constantly associate with believers around you and in the books around you. Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Dhirubhai Ambani, APJ Abdul Kalam, Norman Vincent Peale, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates etc. were great believers, what the world around them couldn’t believe was believed by them and their belief was so strong that it made the impossible possible and left their mark on this planet.
I will conclude this post with one awesome quote by Zig Ziglar about motivation – People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.
So, motivation has to be refilled every day as there is a good amount of negativity around us.
Stay motivated, be and become an achiever.
